Ethiopia-Lesotho JV awarded consultancy contract for Water Supply & Sanitation Project in Lesotho

The African Development Bank has awarded a consultancy contract for the redesign and construction supervision of the Tertiary Mains in Lesotho's Berea District to a joint venture of an Ethiopian and a Lesotho consultancy firm.

The consultants awarded the consultancy contract are Metaferia Consulting Engineers in association with ABK Consulting Engineering.

Metaferia Consulting Engineers (MCE) is a multidisciplinary consulting firm headquartered in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. MCE has been working in eastern and southern Africa for over 20 years. 

ABK Consulting Engineering is a Lesotho-owned multi-disciplinary consulting firm based in Maseru, Lesotho. The firm has successfully completed a number of projects in Lesotho over the last eight years.

The scope of work under the consultancy contract involves reviewing the design and construction supervision of the Tertiary Mains for Zones 7 and 8 in the Berea District.

The value of the consultancy contract is US$201,165.00. The contract duration is nine months from commencement of services.

According to information posted on the African Development bank website, a total of four bidders submitted proposals for the consultancy contract. The other three bidders were:

  • WAPCOS Limited [India]
  • GWC Consulting Engineers (Pty) Ltd in association with Greenway Consultancy (Pty) Ltd [Lesotho]
  • Gibb (Pty) Ltd with LYMA Consulting Engineers as sub-consultant [South Africa]

The executing agency for the project is Lowlands Rural Water Supply and Sanitation (LRWSSP), Lesotho.
