A US$20 million, 150-bed new teaching hospital is set to open in Kigutu, Burundi, on 21 June.

The Kigutu Hospital and Women’s Health Pavilion is being delivered by Village Health Works. FBW Group was project manager and lead designer in the detailed design phases of development.

The facility will provide essential medical treatment and emergency care to women and children in the remote mountain village of Kigutu, transforming the village into a centre of community-driven healthcare and education. It will serve a catchment area of 200,000 people.

It will have seven birth rooms, a prenatal and postnatal ward, a neonatal intensive care unit, a nursery, and general and malnutrition wards.

The hospital will also be a training facility for clinicians, teachers, researchers and medical leaders.
