TANESCO Retenders Malagarasi Hydropower Plant
The deadline for submitting bids is 10 July.
Tanzania Electric Supply Company (TANESCO) has retendered the construction of the Malagarasi hydropower plant in Western Tanzania.
A retender notice was issued on 26 May, through the African Development Bank (AfDB), inviting companies to bid for the plant design, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of the 49.5MW hydropower plant.
The deadline for submitting bids is 10 July.
The Malagarasi hydropower plant will supply power to the Kigoma region. The project is one of the flagship infrastructure investments in Tanzania’s current five-year development plan.
In addition to the construction of the run-of-the-river hydropower plant, the US$144 million Malagarasi scheme also involves the installation of a 54km, 132 kV transmission line that will connect to Tanzania’s national grid and a distribution network expansion that includes rural electrification and last-mile connections.
When the project was last tendered in 2022, it was let as two lots, with lot 1 covering the hydropower plant and lot 2 covering the transmission line.
The retender is for lot 1.
