South Africa's Mulilo Inks PPA For Solar Plant
Electricity will be wheeled to Air Products' sites around the country.
South African independent power producer Mulilo has signed a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with Air Products South Africa.
Under the deal, Air Products will procure up to 75MW of solar energy from a plant to be constructed in the Northern Cape.
The solar farm will be jointly owned by Air Products and Mulilo. Financial close for the project is expected in the fourth quarter of 2023. Commercial operation is slated for the second quarter of 2025.
The facility will have the capacity to generate about 240GWh of electricity a year. The electricity will be wheeled from the solar farm through the national grid to Air Products’ air separation units in various locations around the country.
Mulilo has been an active participant in South Africa’s Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (REIPPPP), with two solar projects awarded in both round one and two, and two wind projects under round three, which are all now operational.
Under the fifth bid window, Mulilo was awarded the 75MW Du Plessis Dam solar PV plant to be built at De Aar, Northern Cape.
