Italian / Somali JV awarded Consultancy contract for 2 road projects in Somalia

A joint venture between Italian firm AIC PROGETTI Spa and Somali firm DESCON Architectural and Engineering has been awarded engineering consultancy contracts on 2 road projects in Somalia.

The Somali Ministry of Public Works, Reconstruction & Housing awarded the consultancy contracts for preliminary, detailed engineering design and preparation of bid documents on the road projects to the JV.

The projects are:

  • Lot 1 - 82km stretch of the existing Beledweyne-Galkayo road / 60km Dhusamareb-Qaradhi / 22km BeledWeyne-Kalabeyr; and 
  • Lot 2 - 85km stretch of the existing Garowe-Galkayo road / Galkayo-Faratoyo

The Lot 1 project was approved on 19 March 2021 and has a contract value of US$789,750. The contract duration is 8.25 months with a start date 14 days after signing the contract. The scope of work under the contract includes consultancy services for preliminary and detailed engineering design and preparation of bid documents for 82km stretch of the existing Beledweyne-Galkayo road, 60km Dhusamareb-Qaradhi road and 22km BeledWeyne-Kalabeyr road.

According to information posted on the African Development bank website, a total of five bidders submitted proposals for the Lot 1 engineering consultancy contract. The other four bidders were:

  • CAS Consultants Ltd in Joint Venture with KBB Associates Ltd and Technology Consults Ltd [Kenya / Uganda]
  • Beza Consulting Engineers PLC [Ethiopia]
  • KATT Consult Limited in association with ALLiONE Consulting Engineers [Uganda / Zambia]
  • SPT - Studi e Pianificazione del Territorio S.r.l in Joint Venture withTekfen Engineering

The Lot 2 project was approved on 9 March 2021 and has a contract value of US$775,375. The contract duration is 8.25 months with a start date 14 days after signing the contract. The scope of work under the contract includes consultancy services for preliminary and detailed engineering design and preparation of bid documents for 85km stretch of the existing Garowe-Galkayo road.

According to information posted on the African Development bank website, a total of five bidders submitted proposals for the Lot 2 engineering consultancy contract. The other four bidders were:

  • Batch Associates Limited in joint-venture with Sobocon Associates Limited [Kenya]
  • Beza Consulting Engineers PLC [Ethiopia]
  • CAS Consultants Ltd in Joint Venture with KBB Associates Ltd and Technology Consults Ltd [Kenya / Uganda]
  • SPT - Studi e Pianificazione del Territorio S.r.l in Joint Venture withTekfen Engineering

The executing agency for both projects is the Somali Ministry of Public Works, Reconstruction & Housing.
