Borouge, a joint venture between Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and the Austrian company Borealis, has won a contract to supply materials for block polypropylene (PP-B) to Egyptian German Industrial Corporate (EGIC) for work on the Greater Cairo Metro project in Egypt.

EGIC is the consultant and contractor of the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) work on drainage pipes for Phase 3 of Line 3, which covers 17.7 kilometres and includes 15 stations, eight underground, five elevated, and two grade level.

Line 3 of the project is the first transverse route to connect east and west of Greater Cairo, covers 41.2 kilometres, and includes 34 stations. The first three stages of four are complete and operational, covering 24 kilometres.

The PP-B pipes are flexible and reduce leakage risk. Their smooth inner walls ensure high gravity flow rates and minimize blockage, while their impact resistance ability makes them easy to install.

“We expect the partnership with EGIC to be the start of a long and mutually beneficial relationship. [It] will provide more business and growth opportunities to Borouge as we continue to meet the highest customer demands. And [this will] boost the sustainability of piping networks, helping to eliminate leakage and offer energy savings,” said Khalfan Al Muhairi, Borouge's Senior Vice President for Middle East and Africa.

"It is ‘Made in UAE’ infrastructure solutions, ideally suitable to make safe, reliable, and durable pipelines that are carefully developed using unique advanced technologies to withstand long operational durations," Al Muhairi added.

The Greater Cairo Metro is the first underground system in Africa and the Arab World. It is one of the world's most technologically advanced mass transit systems.
