Kokstad Dam Expansion In South Africa In Procurement Phase
Zimile Consulting Engineers is working on procuring a contractor for the project.
Zimile Consulting Engineers has completed the pre-construction tender work on a project to raise a dam wall in Kokstad, in South Africa's KwaZulu-Natal province, according to a report by Engineering News.
The consulting contract was awarded to the Johannesburg-headquartered company in March 2020. It comprised all relevant investigations, including the feasibility study and environmental impact assessment, as well as preparing a business plan to secure funding, facilitating legislative requirements, and preparing and awarding a tender for construction, supervision, and project close-out.
The project is currently in the procurement phase with Zimile Consulting Engineers having prepared the contract and tender documentation and now assisting in the procurement of a contractor to carry out the expansion of the dam.
The existing dam wall will be increased from 4 metres to 7.8 metres, enabling the Kokstad dam to supply 12.32 million litres of water a day.
The project is designed to address the short-term and future potable water demand in Kokstad and surrounding areas in KwaZulu-Natal.
